Remember, a few months ago we were ecstatic about the quality of the 2018 vintage and the extremely promising state of the grapes in Burgundy, in black and white, from Chablis to Mâcon via the Côte de Beaune, the Côte Chalonnaise and the Côte de Nuits. In the meantime the harvest has taken place, and, small or big miracle, there has been no climatic catastrophe or major inconvenience. Result: a magnificent harvest, very quickly qualified as exceptional, but in addition the quantity was there…And this is extremely rare: in general the profusion harms maturity and therefore quality. In 2018 this was not the case and it warmed the hearts of all the winegrowers of Burgundy who have for some lived very difficult years with several times very small harvests. It also reassures loyal consumers in Burgundy to curb the inflation that has affected Burgundy wines in recent years, imagining why even some price drops? The reasons for such quality: a spring without weather problems , a very homogeneous flower and impeccable clusters, followed by a hot and dry summer… with rain coming just as the vine starts to stress.Ideal what! Anyway the wines are now being aged, and some white wines (mostly regional appellations), are even starting to be bottled and marketed…. so what? And therefore promise kept : the wines are of a remarkable quality, with a very beautiful spine while being intense and complex, while very very young for Burgundy. Even if they are still perhaps in a phase of exuberant euphoria (it is possible that they close within 6 months), the potential is really there and shows all the interest of this 2018 vintage which confirms to be a great success in Burgundy … and elsewhere in the other French production regions!
