We have heard a lot – and we still hear it – that 2012 is a difficult year for Burgundy wines: capricious weather in spring and sometimes unsuitable flowering, poor July also… Even if the months of August and September were magnificent, hail did its work in some vineyards, especially in Côte de Beaune (we are talking for example about 80% losses in some plots of Pommard). It is therefore true that the volumes produced were significantly below normal. But suddenly the small yields make it possible to bet on a beautiful maturity, and the quality should be at the rendezvous. Moreover, not all the vineyards of Burgundy were concerned in the same way. In Côte Chalonnaise, for example, if Mercurey has a slightly lower yield than usual, entire sectors have benefited from a very good quality (excellent maturity, no rot …) while being in the normal in terms of yields! So for these wines, 2012 will be a great year for sure, excellent why not, exceptional perhaps? See you in a few months for the first tastings of White Burgundy of the 2012 vintage, certainly nice surprises to expect!
